The big mistake that many make is thinking that if you are spiritual you "lose" your religion. That couldn't be farther from the true. Religion is just a subgroup of spirituality. Within spirituality you still retain your religion beliefs, your religious saviors whether it be Jesus Christ, Budda or others. Spirituality recognizes that when the soul departs, it ultimately ends up with your chosen God. But in that place your God is my God and the righteous all end up together.

I too am reading the same book, though I am much slower and basically am on Chapter 5; I am also watching the Oprah Winfrey webcast on the book. Coincidentally, that program is at Chapter 5 too. I agree it is an excellent book; very thought provoking questioning so many of our values, our beliefs. Especially our beliefs of what makes us happy. Look around you...is the world truly happy, at peace? Are people satisfied with their lives? It is time to examine ourselves, our country, our world. While I am sure Tolle is no saint. he raises many issues, offers solutions and hopes. While I still have five chapters to go, by just thinking and trying do as he suggests through the first five chapters had left me more at peace and given me an inter peace I haven't enjoyed in years if I ever enjoyed it at all.

Very nice first blog. I think God (and when I say "God", I don't mean as an example the Christian God or Budda God, etc., but mean the spiritual God who watches over all living being regardless of religious faith), presents us with many tests each and every day of our lives. That is how we grow and learn. That is what shapes our self consciousness. Those tests are shaped by self determination. Some of those tests are simple and others are very hard. Regardless, I believe that God will not throw a test at us that we can't pass. It is our own self determination that gives us the ability to manage to the "right" outcome. Self determination is what makes us human. Sometimes we pass with flying colors. Other times we think we fail. But do you ever think that maybe failing is the "right" outcome at the time.? These so called failures may shape our self consciousness as much as the successes. View each and every test God gives you with positiveness and it will be so.
